In our mixed year two and year three class, we use cross-curricular projects in which subjects overlap to reinforce and compliment each other. Each project is planned carefully to meet the needs and capabilities of the child. We aim to develop the knowledge, concepts, skills and attitudes necessary for your child's whole development. We embrace 'Learning Without Limits' where children are not put into boxes but are given the space to grow and to surprise themselves (and us) about what they can achieve. |

HOME LEARNING LINKS:
Homework will be available each Monday on the relevant electronic learning platforms. The homework needs to be completed by the following Monday. The expectations are that every week Spelling Shed games have been played (at least 5 times); reading has been completed and recorded in reading logs (at least x5) and at least 10 minutes times tables practise. There is also an optional home learning project grid with a variety of activities and learning opportunities to do at home.

Terms 1 & 2: Desert Explorers
Welcome to a brand new school year! We are really looking forward to welcoming everyone back to school and can't wait to see you all! We have lots to look forward to during the coming year - starting with our induction week where we will create our class charter and be able to get to know each other as a new class community!
This term our learning project is called 'Desert Explorers'. During this project we will be comparing life in hot (Africa) and cold (Antarctica) places, exploring plants and what they need to grow and be healthy and experiencing music and art from the African culture. Our WOW day will be on Wednesday 25th September (more information to follow)

Term 3 and 4 Brilliant Brunel
The children enjoyed learning about Brunel's brilliant engineering prowess and understanding how he helped advance many technologies during the Victorian Era.
Term 4
This term, we visited the SS Great Britain. The children had fun exploring the different parts of the ship, learning how it was built, who would have voyaged on the ship and how it was powered.
Term 3
This term, we studied Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge alongside other designs of bridges. The children tested why these bridges were strong. Then, they worked in groups to design and build bridges. We tested them at the end of the day by placing weights on them and replicating an earthquake.
Christmas in Squirrels Class
The children had fantastic fun over the Christmas period. We had fun making Christmas crafts, having a Christmas lunch, and inviting special visitors into our classroom (Father Christmas and a bear that can read the book, 'The Night Before Christmas'.
Term 2 2023 Arctic Explorers
This term, the children explored what the polar regions are geographically like and what animals live there. They drafted reports on polar bears and how they can survive in cold Arctic conditions. Below, is some pictures of the children's home learning.
WOW DAY September 2023
As part of our topic, 'Grow with Love' the children took part in a fun learning day where they made seed bombs, and grass heads, painted pots and thought about how they could help nature thrive.

Welcome to our Squirrels Class page and a brand new school year! The children return on Wednesday, September 6th and we are all really looking forward to seeing them again after the holidays!
The first few days back at school will be our induction where we will create class contracts and revisit expectations of learning and behaviour. The week will end with the sharing of our learning with the rest of the school. The following week we will begin our learning project, 'Grow With Love' The information pack for learning can be accessed on Class Dojo as well as on the website.
All messages and displays of work will be sent through our ClassDojo system. This is where you can get in contact to ask questions, see children's learning and stay up-to-date with everything that is happening in Squirrels class and in the school. Term 5: Wild and Free
Our topic for Term 5 is 'Wild and Free'
The children will be exploring different animal habitats and will be thinking about how they can support animals within our school and local area.
